Day 8 – This little birdie went thrifting

birds1

I love print, and this skirt has been sitting in my wardrobe for years now. I’ve worn it a few times but nowhere near enough considering how long I’ve had it. I picked it up in the H&M sale and couldn’t resist the super sweet birdcage design, but have since found the colour tricky to pair with tops. It’s hard to place my finger on why, but that’s the exact reason things sit in my wardrobe so long – I like them on their own but struggle to find an outfit I love that uses them.

The shirt was given to me by a friend, and I thought it was adorable but often find the monochrome shirt style too formal so try to dress is down to look less office-y. In cream silky fabrics I wear them with jeans half tucked in and think they seem girly and floaty, but with this one having some black incorporated and a less soft fabric I found it harder to pair. So in the end I went for a really flippy skirt that was clearly not formal, but then ‘hardened’ it up with some black ankle boots.

Sometimes I find wearing black shoes with a predominantly white outfit a bit harsh, but because of the black in the shirt I think this works. These boots are brand new (aka second hand!) and I like that they’re a bit shorter so less of a shocking black addition. I also added slightly darker eye makeup than before in a girly meets punky balance.

Day 7 – Iridescent blues

DSC_0480

This skirt came from my Mum – it used to be one of her favourites so I really hope I did it justice! The skirt length is kind of tricky but midi skirts have been all over the streetstyle and celebrity scene so I should be able to make it work too! I went for all over iridescent blue as I like the overly covered up look that is matronly but sexy at the same time. Then I made it a bit sexier with some turquoise snakeskin shoes. I had a bunch of business meetings today for my new startup Find Me  and I felt powerful and feminine so guess this was a winner.

A lot of the streetstyle outfits I saw online had a midi paired with a crop top so I might try this next time…..

Day 5 – Double Tartan

Tartan has been EVERYWHERE during the recent fashion weeks – everyone from Cara Delevingne to Rita Ora was rocking some black and red.

So, today’s W.O.D item was this adorable short sleeved sweater top with little Scandinavian style hearts on it. I don’t often wear it as short sleeved sweaters can be quite tricky, but I’m really into the pattern clashing thing at the moment so thought double-tartan could be a fun outfit! I bought these shorts in Boston and have been planning to shorten them, but as you can see I haven’t got round to it yet, and I actually kinda like them like this! I think I’d like to add a black matte ribbon down the side like tux trousers for an extra fashion edge.

I styled this with a low slicked back pony tail and parting to keep the beauty simple in contrast to the OOTD patterns and colours.

Splurge Friday…. Fake Fur Coat

Fur coat paupertoprincess

See the full post for this outfit here

I got this (fake) fur coat in Boston from a consignment shop. I think I paid $30 which is about £20 – so certainly above my £5 limit. But, at price per wear it must be down to about 10p now as I wear it alllllll the time.

I’ve found adding a fur coat to any outfit immediately makes you look super chic and glamorous, and I’m never one to be fashionably underdressed! Of course, second hand shops are amazing for fur (fake or real depending on what you like) and although things get snapped up quickly, you can often get a bargain.

I’ve also found that its WAY warmer than anything else I’ve got, I suppose there’s a reason animals use it too…. duh! But if I’m ever in doubt about whether I’ll be warm enough, I always take my fur coat.

It’s a must have in your wardrobe I’d say! I’m now constantly on the look out for a second/third one.
