OOTD – Angora and Dungarees

angora_dungarees

I’ve been dying to bring out these pastel dungarees but the weather has been so unreliable I didn’t want to get caught in a rainstorm in a strappy. So…. I decided to add my favourite baby pink angora sweater underneath as a compromise. It’s super snug and meant I could go for head to toe pastels! I got this jumper in a charity shop in America and was thrilled with the price. You often see it UK shops but it can be fairly pricey (although still way cheaper (and more ethical) than buying new), but in America the thrift shops seem to be full of it. You have to be very careful to check for moth holes but they can often be easily darned if you’re looking to bag a bargain!

Colourful summer – vintage rainbow skirt

DSC_0419

I loved this skirt as soon as I saw it on the rail – it’s a great example of how I shop by just sweeping past the rails looking for interesting fabrics or designs. I generally try to go for either very classic pieces (like the navy cropped blazer outfit I blogged two days ago) or unusual special pieces like this. I generally try to avoid the middle ground where they just look a bit outdated or not cool enough to attract compliments!

Thrift the Trends – Printed Trousers

DSC_0404

I am so happy with these printed trousers that I picked up in Goodwill on Harrison Ave. They are a teeeeeny bit big, but I loved the print so much I just couldn’t help myself. They totally remind me of an expensive oriental china plate and I think that light blue always looks nice on blondes, especially for summer.

And…. funny moment – I went to Boston Pride 2013 today (the parade was fab – I saw someone driving a giant shoe!) and what did I see but a short, chubby, old lady in the IDENTICAL trousers. I so so wish I took a photo but I was too shy. I hope she was as excited about it as I was. What was all that stuff I’m always saying about thrifting being great because you never see someone else in the same thing – guess I was wrong!? I’ve been informed that if you get something from Ann Taylor then that’s what you can expect, but I still love them.

Humbug trousers – Goodwill outlet, Boston!

DSC_0409

This outfit contains one of the cheapest items I’ve bought so far. Yesterday I headed over to the Goodwill in Roxbury (on Harrison Avenue). Firstly, it was great because it was huge, so I got a whole bunch of good stuff there which I’ll show you later. But secondly, it has an outlet branch next door! I’m not gonna lie, even for me the outlet branch was kind of intense. I love a good rummage but this was just huge bins of stuff so you had to get literally elbow deep to find anything. I think I might have reached my limit! Having said that….. if you can handle it then you can get some crazy bargains. Everything in there is £1.30 ($1.75) and there were some awesome vintage things, mixed in with a LOT of junk!

Anyway, these trousers were one of the things I pulled out. They’re a bit creased but they’re lovely light fabric, and obviously bang on trend with the whole humbug/monochrome trend thing being seen on everyone from Cheryl Cole to Jessie J to Taylor Swift!

As these trousers are so intense I just paired them with a simple black strappy, and my favourite statement metallic gold belt. I am definitely tempted to pair them with colour having checked out these celebrity mixes too though…. we’ll see!

Boston thrifting – Tartan shorts!

As you may know, I’m in Boston for the next two weeks and am going to be blogging my daily thrifted outfits! Today’s outfit is these awesome tartan shorts. I was thinking about cropping them but I am actually warming to them being this length. What do you think?

Poppys and old friends

This post features my last new purchase (the mittens) before I started my Lent Clothing Fasting so I thought I’d share it with you guys.

It was a sunny but freezing day so I felt like bringing some colour and cheer and spring shades, but still keeping really warm! I love this cardigan as it always reminds me of my fab friend Courtney who sadly lives a million miles away in America, but let me save this from her charity shop pile. Thank you!!

Splurge Friday…. Fake Fur Coat

Fur coat paupertoprincess

See the full post for this outfit here

I got this (fake) fur coat in Boston from a consignment shop. I think I paid $30 which is about £20 – so certainly above my £5 limit. But, at price per wear it must be down to about 10p now as I wear it alllllll the time.

I’ve found adding a fur coat to any outfit immediately makes you look super chic and glamorous, and I’m never one to be fashionably underdressed! Of course, second hand shops are amazing for fur (fake or real depending on what you like) and although things get snapped up quickly, you can often get a bargain.

I’ve also found that its WAY warmer than anything else I’ve got, I suppose there’s a reason animals use it too…. duh! But if I’m ever in doubt about whether I’ll be warm enough, I always take my fur coat.

It’s a must have in your wardrobe I’d say! I’m now constantly on the look out for a second/third one.
